No matter how deeply I am pulled into the canvas, I always find myself coming back to work in my art journals and altered books. These are my diaries, the record of my trials and errors. My successes and my joy at creating with other women.
I'm gonna be honest, this area has my heart and my attention. Connie Solera, a fun and incredible artist, shared all her wisdom for working with oil pastels, soft pastels, graphite, charcoal and more while attending the Fearless Sedona Artist Retreat. I got hooked. During the retreat I was urged to step outside of my normal "musey-like" woman style paintings and jump into color fields and working with oil pastels.
At first I was a little grumbly, thinking, wait I'm creating a piece I want for use on my website as a title page. Connie was like, "Work? Stop working. You're at a retreat. Start exploring!" So I did, and... well, I'm gonna have to give all the credit to Connie for giving me that loving, gentle shove outside of my complacent box.
